Duration of ceremonies

Humanist open-air wedding ceremony. The couple with the officiant.

The length of humanist ceremonies depends on a number of components, but typically lasts around 20-30 minutes. 🕰

Ceremonies take longer if they are held in two languages, if relatives attend, or if more than one ritual takes place – then they can last up to 40 minutes.⏳

When the ceremony takes place alongside metrication, this part usually lasts about 3-5 minutes. 👩‍💼

We do not recommend ceremonies longer than 40 minutes, as it is difficult for guests to maintain their attention, and the bride and groom get tired of standing (this is the most common choice for the bride and groom during the ceremony). 👰‍♂️

It is also worth remembering that guests begin to arrive about half an hour before the ceremony, and afterwards spend the same amount of time, or longer (depending on the number of guests), congratulating the newlyweds.

However, as we have mentioned many times, ceremonies don't necessarily have to be standard. If you are organising a „Love Tour“, the ceremony can last for several hours, but it certainly won't drag on. So, the most important thing is to communicate your wishes very well and consult with your celebrant. 🗣😊
